The FURA software is intended to perform photometric and fluorescence measurements with a photomultiplier. FURA offers the function of an interface for the hardware as an extension to PULSE and X-CHART.

The program FURA reads one or two fluorescence signals (F1 and F2) via one input channel and therefore supports photometric systems working with one photomultiplier tube. So with any two- excitation-one-emission system it always alternately reads the emission if they are measured with the same photomultiplier, i. e. at the same wavelength (e. g. with Fura-2). The two emissions (F1 and F2) are stored in two different buffers. FURA supports the following systems:

  • Olympus OSP3 and OSP100 (single-emission version),
  • pti DeltaRam and DeltaScan,
  • Sutter DG-4 and Lambda-10,
  • T.I.L.L. photonics monochromator,
  • Generic.

The result of the Calcium measurement can be displayed in three different ways:
Each single FURA point together with the current electrophysiology data on the same display, i. e. the oscilloscope. The average of all FURA points of one sweep in the online analysis window, typically continuously vs. time. Export the average of the FURA points of one sweep to the X-Chart extension, and have it displayed, stored, and manipulated. "Subtract Dark" control allows to choose whether the light intensity during the dark period is subtracted from both, signal and reference intensity.

Features:
  • Correlation of electrophysiological and photometric measurements
  • Simultaneous display of electrophysiological and photometric data
  • Supports several one-photomultiplier systems
  • Subtraction of dark period light intensity
  • Extension to PULSE and X-CHART
  • on-line calculation of Ca2+ concentration
  • storage of calibration parameters
