Microdisk Electrodes

The Microelectrodes offered by HEKA are available for various applications in electrochemistry. The microelectrodes have the geometry of a microdisc electrode.

This geometry is preferred while using the electrodes in combination with a SECM approaching to a surface. But this geometry is also useful record locally exocytosis processes from living cells. The defined disc shape provides a defined electroactive area detecting electrochemical reactions locally. All microelectrodes can be used in the microelectrode holder in order to be connected to the low noise current preamplifiers (headstages) of HEKA potentiostats or patch clamp amplifiers.

Platinum Microdisk Electrode

The electroactive core is completely surrounded by glass. Therefore, the electrodes can be used in strong acids and aggressive organic solvents.

Available electroactive diameters are:

  • 25µm
  • 10 µm

The RG value is between 2 and 3.

Platinum Nanodes

Platinum microelectrodes isolated by quartz glass. The electroactive diameter is smaller than 1 µm, therefore, these microelectrodes are called "Nanodes".

Available electroactive diameters are: The RG value is larger than 10.

  • 500nm to 1000nm
  • 200nm to 500nm

The RG value is larger than 10.

Gold Microdisk Electrodes

The electroactive core is completely surrounded by glass. Therefore, the electrodes can be used in strong acids and aggressive organic solvents.

  • 10µm

The RG value is between 2 and 3.

Carbon Fiber Microdisk Electrodes

Carbon fiber microelectrode isolated by glass. The electroactive diameter is 4.7 µm, the RG value is specified between 2 and 3. The carbon fiber is embedded directly in glass and the surface is polished as a micro disc. No polymers and no glues are used in order to isolate the core of the carbon fiber.

Therefore the electrode can be used in aggressive chemical media like acids and organic solvents (methylene chloride, acetonitrile).
