The sharp microelectrode with a standard length of 8 cm is based on a fiber with 80 µm outer diamteter and 25 µm diameter metal core, alloy of platinum/tungsten (Pt 90%/W 10%). The metal core is surrounded and isolated by quartz glass. The electrode fiber is contacted with a gold-pin and mounted in a glass capillary. The microelectrode can be directly connected to any preamplifier from HEKA using the HEKA microelectrode holder for electrodes with outer diameter of 2 mm. Available in two versions:
ground only: The tip is ground sharply with an impedance < 1 MOhm at 1 kHz.
pulled and ground: The small tip is pulled and ground sharply with an impedance > 1 MOhm at 1 kHz.
Other materials of the electroactive core are available on request.
